Why do I need to activate my DNA kit? You must activate your DNA kit to see your results. Your unique activation code is what we use to identify your DNA sample.

DNA Data (or machine readable biometric data) is simply the data generated from your DNA sample in partner labs from AncestryDNA ® and AncestryHealth ® tests. This data is used to calculate your DNA ethnicity estimates results, match you to your genetic relatives and predict your traits.

This step links your kit to your Ancestry® account. You can register your kit before (recommended) or after you mail your sample. Each adult taking the test needs their own account. Only one DNA kit can be registered per account, except for tests for minor children.
